Four years ago our daughter married an amazing young man. We are so happy he is now part of our family! Happy anniversary to this wonderful couple!

A Super Halloween
I love Halloween! When I was a kid, we didn’t have the money to go buy any fancy costumes so we did the best we could to transform into hobos, vampires, werewolves, or witches. On Halloween night there would be swarms of kids walking around my Levittown neighborhood clutching pillowcases to hold all the loot we would get from our neighbors! When I became a mom, hubby and I would dress up our daughter every Halloween and take her around. As she got older it was usually one of the princesses but when she was a baby we decided she’d be Supergirl, flying around Metropolis to protect its citizens! LOL. This is her making her rounds on Halloween night.
Happy Halloween Memories
With Halloween only a few weeks away, I thought I’d share a photo of my daughter and I on her very first Halloween! Sammie was dressed up as a mummy for her mum! LOL! What about you? Did you have any favorite Halloween costumes you wore or that you put on your kids?

Throwback to another time!
It’s Throwback Thursday and this is really a throwback to another time! I snapped this photo at a NYC Public Library exhibit, but my mom took me to the last one of these for lunch since it happened to be across the street from where we were working. She loved going to this and it was a fun experience. Sadly, the place closed up not long after but there are quite a number of modern businesses bringing back this concept! If you know what this is, post it in the comments section and let me know if you ever went to one! P.S. If you don’t know what it is, I gave you a clue in the title on the photo!

Amazing Adventures on Day 2 in Seoul
We are having a blast exploring the amazing sights in Korea! We zipped around on their sleek and spotlessly clean subways to visit several palaces and museums. The straps on the subway cars reminded me of the old-fashioned straps we used to have on NYC subways that coined the term “straphangers” for commuters. But these straps were way cooler. The stations even play music to announce the arrival of the trains! We also hitched a ride on some cabs, especially for our trip to the Banpodaegyo Bridge over the Han River for its amazing rainbow light and water show. Hundreds of people were sitting to watch the amazing sight! We had a picnic where we gorged on kimbap, a portable version of bibimbap (one of my favorites), and some tasty Korean fried chicken. Are there any cons on the trip so far? There are so many steep stairs and steps in Seoul! I am so glad I’ve been training for them. Also, don’t get your hopes up for real coffee or half-and-half to use at home. Only instant is available as far as I can see. I’ve been whipping up some half-and-half and my morning Cuban-style coffee is to die for!

Greetings from Seoul, Korea!
As I write, I am in a small apartment in the Itaewon section of Seoul, Korea fighting off major jet lag! LOL! I left for Korea with my daughter and two of her friends who love all things Korean. I, too, love Korean things and plan on setting my next romantic suspense in this lovely city and country. Our adventure began when we left NYC yesterday for an uneventful 15-hour flight. Yes, 15 hours non-stop. It seemed long after the first four hours but once sleep kicked in, the time flew by. We were surprised at our arrival to find that my daughter’s long-distance friend was actually at the terminal with her family since they came to pick up a friend who was visiting. It was so nice to meet the young woman in person and we were able to converse in a common language: Spanish. She’s been studying it for several years and is quite fluent in it! Later this week we are going to visit with her family and her mom is going to give us a cooking lesson as we were unable to book one through any of the local tours. Can’t wait! Since jet lag has prevented us from sleeping, we decided to watch the sunrise from our rooftop deck before embarking on a day of exploring Seoul. Stay tuned for more pictures and updates.
Cari and Abuela
Today’s Throwback Thursday is to me as a baby and my wonderful abuela, my grandmother Nieves. I was actually named after her as my real first name is Caridad de las Nieves. When I became a citizen I had to change that since I couldn’t have a compound first name and so I became just Caridad, or Cari as my family and Latin friends call me. My grandmother was an amazing woman. When my mom and dad had to leave us behind in Cuba, my maternal grandparents had to care for my sister and me and they did so for nearly two years until my parents could arrange for us to enter the U.S. My grandparents lived with us and it was a wonderful experience to have their many years of knowledge to learn from and also, a very different kind of life since they came from a small aldea in Spain. I was lucky to have my abuela in my life for as long as I did.
