What do you wish you had known…

With kids heading back to school, I have to ask: What’s the one thing that you wish you had known when you were back in school? I was always by-the-book, listen to what the teacher says, kind of kid. We taught my daughter to be the same way. In retrospect, I wish I had known that I should question things I was being told by some teachers. I was lucky to have a mom who taught me to think for myself and I did it often. Today it’s more important than ever to do your own research to understand what is happening. What about you? What do you wish you had known? P.S. One person who knows how to understand what’s happening even when it defies logic is FBI Agent Diana Reyes. She’s determined, tortured, and kick a**, but she will work doggedly to get to the truth. I think you’ll love her! Tempting Teaser Defended by the Bodyguard

I’m so excited about the new books in the Crooked Pass Security series! I loved giving Sophie and Robbie their stories and also introducing you to new characters who you will see in future stories, including the new Cold Case K-9 series coming in late 2026/2027. For today’s Write Wednesday, I’m sharing a little teaser from DEFENDED BY THE BODYGUARD. In this scene, Robbie and the crew at Crooked Pass Security have identified quote a number of suspects who may be responsible for the attacks on Selene’s life. Selene is worried about the long list, but Robbie reassures her that she has even more people to keep her safe. Here’s the teaser and you can grab your copy at https://amzn.to/47cmo2o.

Stroking his thumb across her cheek, he said, “You have lots of people to protect you and who love you.”

Her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, but a shadow of a smile drifted across her lips. She reached up and raked her fingers through his hair, then trailed her hand down tenderly across his bruised cheek. Wincing slightly, she said, “Does it still hurt?”

“Only when I smile,” he said, then grinned and faked a grimace.

She chuckled and shook her head, but then her almost electric blue gaze darkened. She rose slightly on her knees, until she was eye to eye, lip to lip, with him.

“Selene?” he asked, wanting to be sure of what she wanted.

She answered by leaning in and skimming a kiss across his lips, the touch a hesitant exploration as she returned to kiss him over and over.

He cradled her back, offering comfort and support as the kiss deepened.

Her breath soughed against his lips as she broke away for a second, but then returned, opening her mouth to his. Pressing her body to his, he drew her in tighter until they were breast to chest and his body responded, hardening against her softness.

She shivered then and he tempered his hold, loosening it so she could draw back and meet his gaze.

She licked her lips, then bit her lower one and shook her head, as if in denial of what she was feeling.

“I’m not… It’s been…” She shook her head harder then and looked away before blurting out, “I’m not sure of what I want. I’m sorry.”

He clasped her cheek and tenderly urged her to meet his gaze. “I’m a patient man, Selene. I would never rush you or hurt you.”

Through incipient tears, she nodded. “I know,” she said, voice hoarse, and in a softer tone added, “I do. I do.”

It was almost as if she was trying to convince herself. To truly believe he wouldn’t damage her as other men had, which made his heart hurt at the pain she’d suffered.

“Whenever you’re ready, Selene,” he said and meant it, even if whenever turned out to be never.

Cliffside Kidnapping Teaser

Woo hoo, it’s only weeks until the launch of the new Crooked Pass Security series. It’s wonderful to finally give tech geniuses Robbie and Sophie Whitaker their stories and introduce new and amazing characters, including some loveable canines, in the new stories. In CLIFFSIDE KIDNAPPING, the first book in the series, Sophie meets Colorado Bureau of Investigation agent Ryder Hunt who will help her find out who has kidnapped her parents and why. In this teaser, Sophie and Ryder are at Ryder’s vacation home in Regina. Sophie is working while Ryder has fallen asleep after being injured during the chase of a suspect. By Ryder’s side is his adorable K-9 unit dropout Delilah. CLIFFSIDE KIDNAPPING comes out July 1. Pre-order your copy today at https://amzn.to/4iV4R1G.

A soft snore yanked her attention away from her search.

Ryder had fallen asleep on the sofa, the laptop close to falling off his stomach. Delilah lay on her doggie bed beside the couch, looking like a gigantic dead cockroach with her stubby little legs up in the air and her tongue lolling out of her mouth.

She couldn’t fault Ryder for falling asleep. He’d been going hard on the investigation even after being struck by the car.

But that also reminded her that since he had a concussion, it would be good to check that his sleep seemed normal without waking him. He’d only had a light concussion and sleep was a good way for him to heal.

Plus, it’s late, past midnight, she thought with a glance at her smartphone. Time for her to get some rest so she could be sharp in the morning.

Easing from the table, she tiptoed to his side and snared the laptop midair as it finally slid off his lap.

He jerked away and also reached for it, realizing what had happened.

She offered him an apologetic smile and said, “I’m sorry. I didn’t want to wake you.”

“No, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to fall asleep, but working on the computer was giving me a massive headache and I closed my eyes for just a second,” he said and sat up, the leather creaking loudly with his motion.

Sophie kneeled by the sofa, handed him back his laptop, and brushed away a lock of his hair that had slipped down onto his forehead. His hair was silky beneath her fingers, tempting her to brush it back a second time.

When her gaze drifted from that action to his face, she realized he was watching her intently. So intently, it caused a skitter of awareness deep in her core and heat to flood her face.

She jerked her hand away. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to invade your space.”

“Invade at will,” he said, his voice husky as he tenderly skimmed his knuckle across the blush on her cheek.

She did, rising to press her lips to his and explore the attraction she’d been feeling since they’d first met.

His lips were hard beneath hers. Warm. Mobile. Tempting her to go back over and over to sample the contours of his mouth and the press of his chest as he wrapped an arm around her and tugged her closer.

Happy National Bubble Tea Day

I love bubble tea! My daughter introduced me to it years ago, and whenever I get to drink one, I do. Unfortunately, we don’t have any bubble tea shops nearby. (Sad face) I have a kit purchased at a big box store, and will have to dig it out today and treat myself to a bubble tea. What about you? Do you love or hate bubble tea? P.S. My newsletter is going out, and if you’re one of my VIP newsletter subscribers, open it to see how to enter to win one of five (5) author copies of CLIFFSIDE KIDNAPPING, #1 in the Crooked Pass Security series that premieres on July 1.
