Igniting a New Transformation Journey

I haven’t shared all that much about my transformation since I posted about having lost 50 pounds. The first reason for that was that I was struggling to lose more weight and reach my goal. But then that reason changed since I gained back 30 pounds. Sigh. I can tell myself that it was the COVID pandemic. The Y shut down and I lost my trainer and ability to use the elliptical and assorted weights. I retired and found that I could no longer do the 20K plus steps that I did when was in an office. Or maybe it was that my husband discovered how to make the most amazing bread!

For months I’ve been in the doldrums about it, but I’ve dragged myself out of them by forgiving myself and looking at the positives. I didn’t gain all the weight back. I’m still relatively healthy. According to Fitbit, I’ve earned the Pole Badge which means I’ve walked 12,340 miles – the equivalent of walking from the North to South Poles. More importantly, I’ve refocused and have already lost three pounds this week. I’m eating better and eating more. I’m making sure to get in steps, even if it’s not 20K each day. So if you’re like me and have had your ups and downs, forgive yourself and ignite your transformation journey again. You can do it!

#WorkoutWednesday – Walking for Weight Loss

I posted on Monday about gaining back five pounds and am happy to say I’ve already lost two of those pounds. Watching my carbs, eating healthier and being more active has done the trick! One of the ways that I’m more active is by trying to take a couple of walks during the day. Usually a walk right after my writing sprint and another either in the afternoon or post-dinner. I love walking and it’s a great form of exercise. It’s easy on your body, simple to do and you don’t need any fancy equipment. So get out there and start walking and if I haven’t convinced you, here are links to some articles on the benefits of walking:

#TransformationTuesday – Stalled at 50 pounds lost

I haven’t shared any news on my lifestyle transformation lately because I’ve been stalled at 50 pounds lost thanks to the pandemic and my retirement from being a lawyer. I’ve not been able to do my usual cardio and strength training and I’ve actually been sitting a lot more now that I’m writing full-time. But the good news is: I’m stalled at 50 pounds lost. In the past, I would have gained back weight with such a change, but I’ve actually been able to stay at the same weight. That’s a win-win right now. One of the reasons for that is that I’ve been doing a lot more walking. I try to sneak in a walk right after my morning writing session and another in the afternoon right before it’s time to prep dinner. Walking is one of the best exercises you can do and it doesn’t require any extra equipment, just your feet. Well, and some shoes of course. Remember to stay hydrated, especially when the weather is as hot and humid as the last few days.

#TransformationTuesday – United We Stand

I’m feeling the way I did after 9-11: like my whole world had just been changed forever and not in a good way. I remember endlessly watching the news for information and hoping that people had made it out alive. I remember feeling emotionally isolated in those first few days and for many months afterward because it was the only way I could cope with what had happened.

I am lucky so far in that friends and family have been spared illness, but there is the worry for others who may be sick or in harm’s way. There is fear for our Nation and the world as a whole as this illness ravages the economy and people’s livelihoods are affected.

It is time to stand united against this disease and fight for our Nation’s recovery. It is also time that we hold nations accountable for the circumstances that help create these kinds of viruses. It is time for China and other nations that permit wet markets that traffic in wild animals for food to shut down these markets to prevent another pandemic such as this one. If you’re not familiar with these wet markets, please read these articles:

#TransformationTuesday & Happy St. Patrick’s Day

It’s a weird kind of St. Patrick’s day with parades and other events canceled on account of the coronavirus situation. Truly scary times and challenging in so many ways. I hope you are all staying safe and sound.

As for me, I’m staying away from the gym this week and have set up a little workout area at home where I can lift some weights and do some yoga and other exercises. No sense taking risks at this point.

Speaking of working out, I figured I’d share this transformation photo with you today!

#TransformationTuesday – Another milestone in my journey

It’s been close to nine months since I started my journey to a healthier lifestyle and I’ve just hit another milestone – 45 pounds lost. That means only 30 more pounds to go and then keeping all that weight off for good. The change has me feeling emotionally and physically better. I have less pain in my knees and am able to do all kinds of things I could not before. Because of that, I am enjoying new workouts, like Boxfit and Yoga. Plus I am eating healthier foods and it shows in things like my cholesterol levels and blood pressure. I am so happy I took that first step to get healthier and am determined to keep on going! If you’re on a similar journey, please take a moment to share how you’re doing.
